How AI usage is calculated
Note: Plan prices, AI allowances, and how usage is deducted may change over time to reflect operating costs. This page describes the current rules and may be updated without prior notice.
What is AI usage time?
Corodomo uses a shared allowance called Remaining AI usage time (tracked in seconds). AI features that consume resources (subtitles, speaking practice, translation, quizzes, pronunciation scoring, and more) all draw from this same pool.
You can check your balance under Remaining AI usage time on the plan management screen.
Monthly allowance by plan
| Plan | AI allowance / month |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 hour |
| Plus | 30 hours |
| Pro | 100 hours |
The allowance is topped up on renewal / monthly reset (depending on plan). Your remaining balance is shown in the UI.
How usage is deducted
There are three main billing styles:
1. Real audio / video seconds
Tasks that process audio or generate subtitles deduct actual seconds (or a close estimate) of the content. Examples:
- AI subtitles / video import: based on processed video length
- Pronunciation scoring (Speech): ×6 your speaking duration (e.g. speak 10s → 60s deducted), because this AI feature is expensive to run
- Realtime STT (CoroAI speaking): based on actual stream duration
2. Fixed per-action costs
Some AI features (translate, chat, quiz generation, learning-path generation, etc.) deduct a fixed amount of allowance seconds. Reference examples:
| Action | Approx. cost |
|---|---|
| Short TTS / pronunciation replay | ~3 seconds |
| One CoroAI chat turn (video / vocab) | ~12 seconds |
| One roleplay speaking turn | ~15 seconds |
| Quiz / analysis generation | ~3–15 seconds |
| Learning-path / speaking topic generation | ~30–45 seconds |
3. Token-based (longer jobs)
Some long-form features (bulk subtitle translation, video quiz/summary, mindmap, etc.) convert estimated AI tokens into allowance seconds.
What does consume the allowance
- AI subtitle generation / video import
- Subtitle translation, summary, quiz, mindmap for a video
- Speaking practice with CoroAI (roleplay, topic creation, TTS…)
- Pronunciation scoring / AI feedback
- Pronunciation path generation, learning-path quizzes
- AI Q&A chat about a video or vocabulary
- Some dashboard insights when a fresh AI call is required
What does not consume (or uses another limit)
- Watching videos that already have bilingual subtitles (no new subtitle generation / translation)
- Basic vocabulary lookup
- Listening practice: Dictation, Fill-in-the-blank (cloze)
- Vocabulary review: multiple choice, listen-then-choose, type the spelling/reading, flashcards
- Multiple-choice / true–false video exercises (no AI)
- Daily Shadowing challenges (limited by attempts/day, not AI allowance)
- Customer-support CoroAI chat
- Cached results that do not call AI again
Note: Some AI-graded practice still consumes allowance — e.g. Translation practice (AI scoring) or Write an example sentence (AI sentence analysis).
FAQ
What if I run out?
AI features pause until renewal / next monthly reset, or until you upgrade to a higher allowance.
Can Free users use AI?
Yes — Free gets 1 hour/month of the shared pool. Some Free speaking features also have separate attempt limits.
Why does the UI show hours/minutes if billing uses seconds?
The internal pool is tracked in seconds for precision; the UI converts it to hours/minutes for readability.
